Why We Built Algebro

Every Florida 6th grader takes the FAST. It determines placement, measures progress, and shows up on school report cards. For a lot of students and families, it's the biggest math test of the year.

But when I looked at what was actually available for FAST prep, I kept running into the same problems. Worksheets that cover way too much. Private help that costs $40 to $80 an hour. Math apps that are built for a national audience and have nothing to do with the FAST or Florida's B.E.S.T. standards.

None of that is personalized. A student who's solid on ratios but struggling with expressions gets the same practice as one who has the opposite problem. That's a waste of time, and when you only have a few weeks or months before the test, wasted time matters.

What Algebro Does Differently

I built Algebro to solve that problem. When a student signs up, they take a short 25-question diagnostic quiz that covers all the major 6th grade B.E.S.T. math standards. Based on their results, Algebro builds a personalized study plan that points them to the specific skills they need to work on. No guessing. No wasted time on stuff they already know.

From there, students work through targeted practice modules. Each one teaches the concept, gives guided practice, and checks understanding. If they get stuck at any point, Bro (the AI guide built into Algebro) is right there to walk them through it step by step.

When a student is ready, they take a full-length FAST practice test that closely mirrors the real thing. Same format, similar question types. They get a performance level (below level, on level, or above level) plus a breakdown by standard, and then a fresh study plan based on their results. The cycle repeats until test day.

Who It's For

I built Algebro for three groups of people:

Parents who want their child to be prepared for the FAST but aren't sure where they stand or how to help. Algebro gives their child a clear plan and built-in support, so parents don't have to be the math teacher at home.

Teachers who are already teaching to B.E.S.T. standards and just need a tool that gives each student targeted practice matched to their level. Algebro works alongside classroom instruction. It fits into computer time teachers already have.

Administrators who need FAST scores to improve across the board but can't ask teachers to build individual study plans for every student. Algebro handles the personalization automatically and produces standards-aligned data that supports instructional decisions.

What's in the Platform Right Now

  • Over 28,000 practice questions in all, including 22,000+ aligned to Florida B.E.S.T. math standards for grades 6, 7, and 8
  • A 25-question diagnostic quiz for each grade that maps to all major standards
  • Personalized study plans generated from diagnostic and practice test results
  • A full-length FAST practice test for each grade with performance level reporting
  • Over 200 lessons with exit tickets, one for every benchmark
  • Live, teacher-hosted class review games
  • A test-taking strategies module covering time management, process of elimination, and question-type approaches
  • A FAST overview module that explains what the test is, how it works, and what to expect
  • Bro, the AI guide, built into every practice module
  • A teacher dashboard with class and student performance data by standard

Try It for Free

Algebro comes with a 7-day free trial for families. No credit card required. I want every Florida middle schooler to have the chance to try real FAST prep, regardless of whether their family can afford private help or their school has the budget for another platform.

What's Next

When this post was first written, Algebro covered 6th grade math. It now covers all of middle school: full lessons, practice, diagnostics, and FAST practice tests for grades 6, 7, and 8. Next up are Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC prep, with the same standards-aligned, personalized approach.

If you're a Florida parent, the 7-day free trial is at algebro.ai. It takes about a minute to start and there is no credit card. If you're a teacher or administrator, schools don't use the public trial. Email jkorwin@algebro.ai and I'll set your classes up directly with pricing that fits your roster.

Try Algebro
