Graphing Two-Variable Linear Equations: Sample FAST Questions

Graphing a line in 8th grade means starting at the y-intercept and stepping off the slope, or plotting ordered pairs from a table. Equations arrive in slope-intercept form and usually carry a real-world meaning along with them.

How the FAST tests this benchmark

This is one of the most graphic response heavy benchmarks on the grade 8 FAST, with students plotting points or drawing a line on a coordinate grid. Every plotted point has to land exactly on a grid intersection, so a slope like 2/3 has to be stepped off carefully.

Skills students need

  • Graph a line from slope-intercept form
  • Graph a line from a table of values
  • Graph a line from a written description
  • Plot points accurately on a coordinate grid
