Placement Test · Grade 1 math through Geometry

Where is this student, really?

A student in 7th grade who cannot divide fractions does not have a 7th grade problem. So Algebro ships a placement test that does not assume the grade on the roster is the grade in the head. It starts a rung below where the student says they are and climbs or drops from there, one level at a time, across 6 sections, all the way from grade 1 arithmetic to high school Geometry.

This page is a sample of that ladder: 10 questions, one per rung, bottom to top. It does not adapt. It is here so you can see the range the real test covers before you sign up for anything.

How the real placement test works

  • It adapts. Get two right at a level and it moves you up; miss two and it moves you down. Once it settles, it confirms that level with a five-question check before it calls the placement.
  • It reports a level for each of the 6 sections separately, so a student can sit at grade 8 in algebra and grade 5 in fractions and the report says exactly that. The last section, Functions, unlocks once algebraic thinking places high enough to make it worth asking.
  • Untimed by default, or a 120-minute timed run if you want test conditions. Students can retake it later as their skills move.
  • It comes with every practice account, and the result feeds the study plan instead of sitting in a PDF nobody opens.

The 6 sections, each scored on its own

  • Number & Operations
  • Fractions, Ratios & Proportionality
  • Geometry & Measurement
  • Algebraic Thinking
  • Data & Probability
  • Functions

The 10 rungs, bottom to top

The sampler below walks these rungs in order, so rung 1 is question 1 and rung 10 is question 10. On the real test a student never sees all of them: the ladder finds a level and stops.

Same players the real test uses: multiple choice and the equation editor, checked instantly. Nothing is saved and nothing is scored against you.

One note on the Easy and Medium badges below. Those come from the question bank and they grade a question against its own level, so a Medium at rung 9 is Geometry work and a Medium at rung 2 is second grade. On this page the rung is the difficulty story, not the badge.

Take the one that actually adapts

The real placement test climbs and drops with every answer, reports a level for each of the 6 sections, and hands the result to a study plan that starts at the gaps it found. It is included with every Algebro account, along with 22,000+ FAST-style questions for grades 6 to 8. $10 a month for families, first 7 days free, no credit card.
