Classifying Exponential Growth and Decay: Sample Algebra 1 EOC Questions

An exponential function grows when its base is greater than 1 and decays when the base is between 0 and 1. Students classify a function given as a table, an equation, or a written description and name the percent rate behind it.

How the Algebra 1 EOC tests this benchmark

The EOC locks exponential forms to a times b to the x, with b a whole number greater than 1 or a unit fraction, or a times the quantity 1 plus or minus r, to the x, with r between 0 and 1. There is no base e in Algebra 1. Multiple choice and drop-down items ask for the classification plus the rate.
