Two-Way Frequency Tables: Sample Algebra 1 EOC Questions

A two-way frequency table sorts one group of people by two categorical variables at once, such as grade level and lunch choice. Students build the table, read joint and marginal frequencies out of it, and decide whether the two variables appear to be associated.

How the Algebra 1 EOC tests this benchmark

The EOC gives raw counts rather than percentages, and items stay with joint and marginal frequencies rather than relative frequencies. Association questions stay qualitative: students argue from the counts rather than computing a statistic. Expect table-completion equation editor items, multiselect items, and multiple choice reading questions.

Skills students need

  • Construct a two-way table from a description
  • Read a joint frequency from a cell
  • Read a marginal frequency from a row or column total
  • Judge whether two categorical variables appear associated
