Distances on the Coordinate Plane: Sample FAST Questions

Students find distances between ordered pairs that share the same x-coordinate or the same y-coordinate on the coordinate plane. This includes points in different quadrants, where students add absolute values — for example, the distance between (−3, 4) and (5, 4) is 8 units.

How the FAST tests this benchmark

On the FAST, students answer equation editor items computing the distance between two points and multiple choice items applying coordinate distances in real-world map-style contexts.

Skills students need

  • Find the distance between points with the same x- or y-coordinate
