Writing, Solving, and Graphing One-Step Inequalities: Sample FAST Questions

Students write and solve one-step inequalities in one variable and represent the solution algebraically or on a number line. Forms include px > q, x/p > q, and x ± p > q with any inequality symbol, and students learn that multiplying or dividing by a negative number reverses the direction of the inequality.

How the FAST tests this benchmark

The FAST uses graphic response items where students graph the solution set on a number line, plus multiple choice items matching an inequality to its graph. The two things that decide the score are flipping the symbol after dividing by a negative, and choosing an open versus a closed circle.
