A solution to a system of two linear equations has to satisfy both equations at the same time. 8th graders test candidate ordered pairs by substituting into each equation and keeping only the pairs that work in both.
How the FAST tests this benchmark
FAST items are usually multiple choice or multiselect questions asking which ordered pairs satisfy the system. The trap is a pair that makes the first equation true and the second false, so both equations have to be checked every time.
